Kasane Institutional Offices
Client: Botswana Government, Ministry of Environment & Tourism, 2000sqm
Located in the beautiful tourist destination of Kasane. The Kasane/Kazungula redevelopment project is meant to diversify the tourism product offering away from wildlife resources.
Key development Precincts and Projects were identified in the study area that require Urban Design intervention to transform them into the highest standards envisioned by the Integrated Tourism Strategy for Kasane Kazungula.
This project therefore interpreted the findings of both the Integrated Tourism Strategy and Redevelopment Plan and applied Urban Design strategies to bring them into reality through designs and actionable Standards and Guidelines.
The main objective of the project is to relocate the sparsely located office structures along Kasane main road and develop replacement facilities at the new plot next to the proposed government office identified by the master planning. The brief called for 1800m² of flexible office space on 3 levels, to be occupied by 9 different government departments.
Two wings connected by a central circulation core and glass facades in the most optimal solar orien tation allow for captured views to the river from the upper floors. A roof terrace and urban garden create interest and dynamism to the building. Indigenous landscaping inside and outside the building aims to celebrate the biodiversity of this special area
